This article tells of how W. I. Zabriskie and classmates Warren Ackerman and Reg Roland raised enough money to buy the Navy a submarine chaser. The 17 year-olds dreamt that if they could provide the Navy with the vessel, they would be permitted to enter service before they were of age.
